Dave Rahn has been with the Big Sky State Games since the inaugural games in 1986, and has served as the Trapshooting Commissioner for over 30 years. He has been a competitive trap shooter since 1978 and has served on the Board of Directors since 1981. He was the 1984 Montana State Handicap Champion and the 1990 and 1992 Billings Trap Club Champion. Dave is a sales representative for Forms & Systems, Inc.

Helen Shandy has been involved in Trapshooting for 8 years. She participates in the Trapshooting league and is entering her second year as a commissioner. Helen works in sales at Mattress King.

State Games of America Qualifier

All 2017 and 2018 Big Sky State Games medalists, and some 2019 medalists are eligible to compete in the
2019 State Games of America in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Current sports are:

Archery, Basketball, Biathlon, Billiards, Bowling, Cycling (Mountain Bike), Disc Golf, Equestrian, Fencing, Figure Skating, Golf, Ice Hockey, Karate, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Racquetball, Road Race, Shooting, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tae Kwon Do/Judo, Tennis, Track & Field, Ultimate Frisbee, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

Special Information

Rules & Regulations

Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) rules will govern all events. You need not belong to ATA to participate on Sunday.

  • BEGINNER: New to organized trapshooting
  • EXPERIENCED: Qualified in organized trapshooting, past ATA, league, etc.
  • ATA MEMBER: Holds current ATA Membership and Handicap Card
Target Fees

$20 per 100 targets payable at Trap Club on day of event. Do NOT send target fees with State Games entry fee.

Other Details

For individuals who sign up after July 16, Opening Ceremonies ticket will be at the Information/Will Call booth at Daylis Stadium the night of Opening Ceremonies. One t-shirt per athlete.

Schedule of Events

Sunday, July 22, 2018
Time Event
8:00 AM Registrations, squadding, and practice opens.
9:00 AM Shooting Safety Clinic (required for BEGINNER shooters).
10:00 AM Beginner & Experienced competition begins.
100 Targets: 50 at 16 yds, 50 at handicap yardage equal to 1/2 of 16 yd score +2.
Immediately following is the ATA Registered Shoot 100 16's, 100 Handicap, 50 pair Doubles Targets, Shoot any or all.
Immediately following is the Team Event Any five trapshooters (must register individually).
50 Targets: 25 at 16 yds, 25 at handicap yardage.
