They are both 5th Dan Taekwondo, Dave is 4th Dan Judo and Eve is Nidan in Judo. Dave and Eve are part owners and instrutors at the Martial Arts Academy of Billings. Eve works freelance as a legal assistant and proofreader, while Dave owns Auto Brokers of Montana and AA&A Auto Rental. Dave is also a PJC International Judo Referee, and serves as a tournament announcer for various national and international events, including the World IBSA (Blind Players) Judo Tournament and the 2015 Pan American Games.

State Games of America Qualifier

All 2017 and 2018 Big Sky State Games medalists, and some 2019 medalists are eligible to compete in the
2019 State Games of America in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Current sports are:

Archery, Basketball, Biathlon, Billiards, Bowling, Cycling (Mountain Bike), Disc Golf, Equestrian, Fencing, Figure Skating, Golf, Ice Hockey, Karate, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Racquetball, Road Race, Shooting, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tae Kwon Do/Judo, Tennis, Track & Field, Ultimate Frisbee, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

Pre-Competition Meeting


More specific rules will be discussed. Please see the tournament schedule and Judo General Rules/Modified IJF Rules below.


Admission for spectators will be charged $5/adult and $2/student. For individuals who sign up after July 16, Opening Ceremonies ticket will be at the Information/Will Call booth at Daylis Stadium the night of Opening Ceremonies.


Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each competition division.

Divisions for Judo

Divisions determined the day of the event based on age, size and belt rank. Thirteen(13) year old and under divisions may be mixed gender.

Judo General Rules - Modified IJF Rules

The Judo competition will follow modified International Judo Federation (IJF) rules with junior safety medical rules. Leg grabs will be penalized shido, two minute matches Juniors, three minutes all others. Two Wazari will equal Wazari Awasete Ippon. Blue judogis not mandatory.

Tournament Schedule

Commissioner reserves the right to have co-ed competitions for 10 and under age groups.
