Samuel Bergman has curled since 2012, and is a founding member of the Billings Curling Club. Sam is a project manager for general contractor Langlas & Associates. Outside of curling, Sam spends time with his lovely wife Catherine and likes to fly fish.

Chris was born in Warrenton, VA and grew up in the Virginia Beach area. After high school, Chris attended Virginia Tech where he studied and graduated with a B.S. in Geology. In March of 2005, Chris made the move to Montana with future wife Mary, to start work as a Wellsite Geologist for Sunburst Consulting. Chris is now a Vice President for Sunburst and has been the President of the Billings Curling Club since January of 2014. Outside of his time curling, Chris can be seen playing ice hockey, playing guitar, or just hanging out with his daughter Cece.

Special Information

The competition will guarantee 3 games consisting of 6 ends for round robin and early playoff and 8 ends for the finals. Games will be based on the following point system:

  • (1) Point for each End Won
  • (1/4) Point for each Point Scored
  • (5) Points for Winning the Games
  • (1) Point for a tie

The tournament will be limited to the first 16 teams registered. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams. If numbers merit, division will split into two.

Registration fees include meals for Friday and Saturday, and Big Sky State Games T-shirt.

Curling Rules

  1. A 4-person team may consist of any combination of men or women playing.
  2. No street shoes on ice.
  3. Order for first stone is determined by coin flip.
  4. Free guard rule applies.
  5. Games will be played for 6 ends for round robin and early playoff and 8 ends for the finals.
  6. Games can end in a tie during round robin play. During bracket play, ties will be broken. Tie breaker rule coming soon.
  7. When a game is delayed 10 minutes, the offending team will be penalized 1 point and 1 end posted. For each additional 10 minutes delay, the team will be penalized 1 point and 1 end posted. When a team has been penalized 4 points, it will lose the game by default.
  8. A team is permitted to play with three players. The first two players throw three rocks each.
  9. When, during a game, a player is unable to continue, the team may finish the game with the three remaining players continuing the same sequence. The first two players will each deliver three rocks.
  10. Team contact can change roster online free of charge until April 22. BSSG staff can make changes for you for $10/time. After the deadline, all roster changes must be submitted at the event site prior to the first game, and must be approved by commissioner. Onsite changes cost $10 (for any number of players). Roster changes due to injuries after first game must be approved by commissioner.
  11. Players, coaches, and spectators are expected to act in the nature of good sportsmanship at all times. The Sport Commissioners can disqualify the responsible player/team for instances of unsportsmanlike or unruly behavior.
  12. Any rules not covered above will be covered by USA Curling Rules. Rule adjudication by onsite commissioner or his appointee.
