Bowling Commissioner Rich Marquess, heads up State Games Bowling for the 19th year. He has bowled in leagues and tournaments since he was eight years old. Rich has worked in the bowling industry for over 30 years.

State Games of America Qualifier

All 2017 and 2018 Big Sky State Games medalists, and some 2019 medalists are eligible to compete in the
2019 State Games of America in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Current sports are:

Archery, Basketball, Biathlon, Billiards, Bowling, Cycling (Mountain Bike), Disc Golf, Equestrian, Fencing, Figure Skating, Golf, Ice Hockey, Karate, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Racquetball, Road Race, Shooting, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tae Kwon Do/Judo, Tennis, Track & Field, Ultimate Frisbee, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

Tournament Rules

The tournament is sanctioned by United States Bowling Congress (USBC). The tournament is open to all Montana bowlers. USBC membership cards are required and available for purchase onsite. All bowlers will use their final average from the 2017-2018 season, with a minimum of 21 games. Bowlers without the above average may use their final 2016-2017 average, with a minimum of 21 games. If they do not have either average, they will bowl in the open division.


All open division will bowl scratch with no handicap. All other divisions will receive handicap; handicap will be 100% of difference between bowler’s average and 220.


All divisions will bowl 3 games. The top 3 scores in each division will receive medals. Medals will be awarded at the conclusion of each division session. The complete rules will be posted at the event site.

Team Format

All team members need to register. New Adult/Youth team division (2 Adults and 2 Youth). All team divisions will bowl 3 games, their total score bowled plus their team handicap will equal their total score. Team captains please list Team Name, all team members in bowling order on your entry form and indicate the time you would like to bowl.

Adult Teams

Adult Team Bowling is made up of 4 members: male, female, or mixed teams competing in 3 divisions:

  • “A Division” - total team average of 650+
  • “B Division” - total team average of 649 & under
  • Open Division - no team average limit.
Youth Teams

Youth Team Bowling is made up of 4 members: male, female, mixed teams competing in one division.
