Kelly Kjorlien grew up in Grand Rapids, MN training and racing with the Mt. Itasca Biathlon Association. She competed on the USA Junior National Biathlon Team from 2010 to 2012, including three Junior World Championship appearances and one International Biathlon Union Open European Championship experience. She now lives in Bozeman, MT and is studying Agroecology at Montana State University. She serves as the Bridger Biathlon Club's head coach.

Special Information and Rules

International Biathalon Union (IBU)

The IBU rulebook applies. Each participant will receive two race numbers (for front and back) at check-in. The course will be marked for course orientation and shooting practice on Saturday, July 8 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.

Safety Clinic

All new participants must attend the safety clinic. Safety Clinic begins at 8:30am on Sunday, July 9.

Zeroing

Zeroing will take place between 9:00 a.m.-9:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 9. Divisions are based on age on date of event. A .22 caliber rifle with ammunition will be provided for competition.

Race Course

Summer Biathlon sprint will be over a distance of 6 km. The race will begin as a wave start. Kids race will start first and will have a lesser running course. After 2 km of running, the first firing session consists of 5 rounds from the prone (stomach) position. The second session consists of 2 km of running, and then 5 rounds fired from the standing position for Elite division; Open and Under 16 shoot prone. All targets are 50 meters away. For each missed target during firing sessions, competitors must cover a 150 meter penalty loop. The final loop is 2 km to the finish. The competitor’s final time determines the medal winners in each division.

Event Cancellation

The Race Commissioner reserves the right to modify, change, or cancel the Biathlon for weather and/or safety conditions.
