Travis Hoem is a home-grown Montanan. Raised in Billings, he left at 18 to join the Army and returned 18 years later. Father of three boys and one daughter, he has immersed himself in a family-owned archery business. Lynisa Hoem, native Oklahoman, moved to Billings with Travis in 2008. Thrown into archery because of a son’s love of A Ranger’s Apprentice, she has been supportive of her family’s renewed interest in anything outdoors.

State Games of America Qualifier

All 2015 and 2016 Big Sky State Games medalists, and some 2017 medalists are eligible to compete in the
2017 State Games of America in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Current sports are:

Archery, Basketball, Billiards, Bowling, Cycling, Disc Golf, Fencing, Figure Skating, Flag Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Karate, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Racquetball, Road Race, Rollerskating, Shooting, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tae Kwon Do/Judo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

Special Information

Medals

If five or more people are registered for a particular class, there will be medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd each day, all classes and divisions. Classes may be combined if less than 5 shooters are registered.

Concessions

Concessions available both days, Self-Contained camping facilities available, $5/night.

  • For individuals who sign up after July 10, Opening Ceremonies ticket will be at the Information/Will Call booth at Daylis Stadium the night of Opening Ceremonies.

Classes (Skill Code)

NFAA rules apply to equipment and scoring. Please enter correct skill code when registering.

Freestyle

Any type of sight and its written memorandum may be used. Any release aid may be used provided it is hand operated and supports the draw weight of the bow and is not attached to the bow other than the bowstring. In the case of physical disability of the arms or hands, a chew strap may be used in place of fingers or release aids. The rear stabilizer shall not touch any part of the body.

Freestyle Limited

Any type of sight and its written memorandum may be used. Release aids shall be limited to gloves, tabs and fingers. In the case of physical disability of the arms or hands, a chew strap may be used in place of fingers. The rear stabilizer shall not touch any part of the body.

Bowhunter Freestyle

A maximum of (5) five fixed pins on sight. Release aids will be permitted. In the case of physical disability of the arms or hands, a chew strap may be used in place of fingers or release aids. One straight stabilizer, coupling device included if used, which cannot exceed 12 inches at any time, as measured from the back of the bow. V-bar, counterbalance and string dampeners may be used. During a round no adjustments may be made to the bow and its related equipment unless equipment failure is recognized.

Bowhunter Freestyle Limited

Same as Freestyle Bowhunter except for these restrictions: Release aids shall be limited to gloves, tabs and fingers. In the case of physical disability of the arms or hands, a chew strap may be used in place of fingers.

Barebow

Archers shooting Barebow style will use bow, arrows, strings, and accessories free from any sights, marks or blemishes that may be used as a sighting aid. Only gloves, tabs, or fingers shall be permitted, except in the case of physical disability of the arms or hands, a chew strap may be used in place of fingers.

Primitive/Traditional

This style of shooting is for those who wish to compete with the Recurve or Longbow. No device of any kind, including arrow rest, that can be used for sighting will be used or attached to the archers’ equipment. There shall be no device, mechanical or otherwise, in the sight window except the arrow rest, arrow plate or plunger button. Gloves, tabs or fingers shall be the only legal releases. In the case of physical disability of the arms or hands, a chew strap may be used in place of fingers.
